Who Are Reflectors?

The most remarkable and rarest Type in Human Design is the Reflector. There are very few Reflectors, only 1%, and yet they exist. Reflectors are the people who have not a single defined (colored-in) energy center in their Rave Chart.

Every energy center of a Reflector contains only so-called “dormant” Gates. This means that Reflectors have no constant access to energy and, like Projectors, belong to the Non-energy Types.

In Human Design, white or undefined centers show where exactly a person is open and subject to conditioning by others. Open centers let us “experience” the whole variety of other people. The problem is that the Reflector has nothing inside to rely on. And here it is tempting to think that, with such extreme openness, Reflectors constantly let everything foreign pass through them: energies, vibrations, emotions, and are therefore vulnerable. But that is not so.

It all comes down to their magical aura.

Nature has made sure to protect these remarkable beings. The Reflector's aura is closed and dense, which lets them be in contact with very different people without yielding to the influence of their energy fields. This feature works as a protection against overload.

Besides, Reflectors are able to “sample” others. The Reflector's aura lets in only a small fragment of another person's field and vibrations, without that person noticing. But for an awakened Reflector, this is quite enough to tell very precisely what the other person is like.

The Reflector is a mirror. Through their open centers, the Reflector literally reflects what they receive during this “sampling.” Like a chameleon, the Reflector comes to resemble the people they are with. They are built in such a way that they not only reflect everything around them but also amplify it.

The Reflector and the movement of the planets

The movement of the planets has an enormous influence on a Reflector's life, and this is something even their impenetrable armor cannot protect them from. It is in the movement of the planets that Reflectors find definition and a life potential that is fixed, if only for a short time. The influence of planetary movement is so powerful that it allows the Reflector to literally live the lives of different people. Every month they go through a certain cycle in which they can live out the energy of the other three Types. For example, every month there are three days when they will be Manifestors, then four days when they will be Generators, and so on. It is important for Reflectors to know about these inner rhythms of theirs so that they can make the most of them.

Because Reflectors are so open and changeable by nature, they often look for stability in life through the presence of other people in their aura. Because of this deep need for the physical presence of others, and also because they are so often misunderstood, the main theme in a Reflector's life is disappointment.

Unlike the other three Types, the Reflector belongs not to the solar but to the lunar Type. This means that their Strategy is closely tied to the Moon and its movement across the sky.

To avoid disappointment, a Reflector needs to wait one Lunar cycle (29.5 days on average) when making decisions; during that time the decision will “steep.”

During this month, Reflectors should discuss the decision with people, so that their potential can show itself in as many variations as possible. But this does not mean that Reflectors should ask anyone for permission or look for advice. While discussing it, a Reflector needs to keep track of their own reactions and thoughts about the possible decision from their different and changing inner states. After 29 days, the answer will literally have matured.

The Reflector's Strategy is as simple as that of all the other Types. And, just like all the others, it is not easy in practice.

A Reflector needs to remember that planetary transits are not who they really are. A Reflector is an actor with a very busy schedule: today they play a lover, three days later a general, four days after that a comedian. By understanding planetary transits, a Reflector can understand their own activations and organize their daily life at least to some degree.

This can be a deeply stimulating process for them if they do not identify with what they reflect, and an extremely destructive one if the opposite happens.

Reflectors have the chance to become the wisest among us, because their chemistry is a mirror of life itself.

Reflectors are perhaps the most limited of all, but at the same time they have the widest possibilities of any of us, and their prospects are truly unique.
